Bernard P. Scoggins, M.D., F.A.C.P.

Internal Medicine

Bernard Scoggins was born in Dalton, Georgia but has been in Albany since 1979 when he joined Albany Area Primary Health Care, Inc. (a Community Health Center) as an Internist. He is still a practicing internist with AAPHC, Inc. and has served as Medical Director for this organization since 1993. Dr. Scoggins is Board certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics. He sees patients in the inpatient, outpatient, and nursing home settings. Dr. Scoggins graduated from Duke University in 1976 and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Emory University in 1979.

James A. Hotz, M.D., M.A.C.P.

Internal Medicine

Dr. Jim Hotz is a Board Certified Internist and Master of the American College of Physicians, and began practicing medicine in what was considered one of the poorest and most medically underserved areas of the south. Volunteering to join the National Health Service Corp in the U.S. Public Health Service in 1978, he helped to form Albany Area Primary Health Care. His academic preparation includes a degree in chemistry from Cornell University in 1972, an M.D. from Ohio State in 1975, and a residency in internal medicine at Emory University from 1975 through 1978. He is a member of the Clinical Faculty of Mercer University School of Medicine and Medical College of Georgia.

Brandon, Charisse A., M.D. AAPHC Adult Provider

Charisse A. Brandon, M.D.

Internal Medicine

Hailing from Jamaica by way of New York, Dr. Brandon joined the team at Albany Area Primary Health Care in 2006 as an Internal Medicine Hospitalist. She attended Loma Linda University for her medical degree and graduated in 2003 before completing her residency at Greater Los Angeles VA Health Systems – University of California in June 2006. Dr. Brandon received her Board certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine in November 2006. She is married and she and her husband have twin girls.

Charles Tyler, M.D.

Internal Medicine

Graduating from medical school in 1979 from the University of South Florida College of Medicine, Dr. Chuck Tyler had many opportunities to practice medicine in Florida before relocating to Georgia. He practiced at Albany Internal Medicine from 1996 until 2009 before joining AAPHC as a Board Certified Internal Medicine Hospitalist. Dr. Tyler is happily married to his wife, Anne. He raises cockatiels and operates a pecan orchard in his off time. Dr. Tyler also enjoys repairing and renovating old farm equipment.

Lawson, Deirdre Mae, M.D. AAPHC Adult Provider

With ties to both England and Jamaica, Dr. Deirdre Lawson has made her home in southwest Georgia. Practicing with Albany Area Primary Health Care since 1994, She is currently the chairperson of the Department of Internal Medicine and serves on various other committees for AAPHC and other entities within the community. She completed her medical degree in 1991 at the University of Florida and her residency was completed at the Medical College of Georgia. Dr. Lawson is an active member of Sherwood Baptist Church and sings in the choir.

Ferguson, Frances, M.D. AAPHC Adult Provider

Frances Ferguson, M.D., F.A.C.P.

Internal Medicine

Originally from Alabama, Dr. Ferguson returned to her southern roots in 2009 to join AAPHC. She also began her medical career at AAPHC in 1992 as a new residency graduate and NHSC scholar recipient. Dr. Ferguson completed her residency in internal medicine at Franklin Square Hospital Center in Baltimore, MD. She attended Howard University for her undergraduate degree as well as her medical degree graduating in 1989 as a physician. Dr. Ferguson is a Board Certified Internist and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.

Ohamadike, Ignatius, D.O. AAPHC Adult Provider

Ignatius Ohamadike, D.O.

Internal Medicine

Ignatius graduated from University of Benin, Nigeria Medical School in 1986 and practiced general medicine until 1995 when he migrated to the states. In 1996, he was certified by ECFMG as a foreign medical graduate. However, his great desire for excellence in fulfilling his passion for helping people live their lives to the fullest led him to New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYCOM), to pursue another medical degree in Osteopathic Medicine.

Vance, J. Edward, Jr., M.D. AAPHC Adult Provider

Internal Medicine

Dr. Vance, originally from Atlanta, received his M.D. degree from Emory University School of Medicine in 2000. He subsequently completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2003. Following the completion of his training, he joined Albany Area Primary Healthcare, Inc. as a Board Certified Internal Medicine Physician. Currently, Dr. Vance is the Clinic Director for Lee Medical Arts Center in Leesburg, GA.

Phillip Richard Poulos, M.D.

Internal Medicine

Dr. Phillip Poulos is originally from New York but joined AAPHC in 1981 through the US Public Services Administration. He completed his two year commitment term and then was employed by AAPHC directly. Dr. Poulos graduated from Tufts University (Summa Cum Laude) in 1974 with a BS in chemical engineering. He received his medical degree from the University of Miami in 1978. His residency in internal medicine was completed at University of Connecticut Affiliated Hospitals in 1981. Dr. Poulos has an affinity for Apple products (Macintosh Computers specifically) and has a direct interest in computer applications in primary care medicine. Dr. Poulos is also certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. In his spare time, Dr. Poulos enjoys physical activity through bicycling, swimming, and weight exercises.

Johnson, Robyn Mann, M.D. AAPHC Adult Provider

Robyn Mann Johnson, M.D.

Internal Medicine

Originally from Florida, Dr. Robyn Johnson joined AAPHC in 2002 and currently practices as a full-time Board Certified Internist and serves as chairperson of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee for the organization. She earned her degree as a Doctor of Pharmacy from Florida A&M University in 1995 before completing her medical degree in 1999 at the University of Florida. She completed her residency training in internal medicine at Emory University in 2002. Dr. Johnson enjoys women’s health issues, preventive medicine and serving the under-served population which fits well with her position in this organization. She enjoys spending time with her family, including her husband and their three children.

Chigbu, Rowland, M.D. AAPHC Adult Provider

Rowland Chigbu, M.D.

Internal Medicine

Dr. Rowland Chigbu joined Albany Area Primary Health Care in 2011 as a Board Certified and National Health Service Corp Scholar Physician after completing his residency training at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia in June 2011. He attended medical school at Morehouse School of Medicine and received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota in both Chemical Engineering and Chemistry. In his spare time his interests are in soccer, singing and enjoying nature. Dr. Chigbu is recently married and enjoys spending time with his wife whenever their schedules allow.

Rupert A. Dyer, D.O.

Internal Medicine

Dual certified in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, Dr. Dyer enjoys a broad practice that allows him to see patients of all ages. He graduated from the University of Rhode Island with his Bachelor’s Degree and attended Nova-Southeastern University for his Medical Degree. Dr. Dyer’s residency training was completed at Case Western Reserve University. He originally joined Albany Area Primary Health Care, Inc. as a National Health Service Scholar, but after completing his obligation, has remained here with his family. Dr. Dyer is married with two children and enjoys gardening in his free time.

William Arthur McPeters, M.D.

Internal Medicine

A Board Certified Internist with Albany Area Primary Health Care since 1986, Dr. William McPeters enjoys practicing at both an urban and rural location. He graduated with his degree in medicine from the University of Tennessee in 1983 and then completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University hospital from 1983 until 1986. Dr. McPeters enjoys time with his wife and daughter outside of the office.
